Urquhart Castle, Drumnadrochit

An informative and perfectly orchestrated trail around the castle built on the edge of Loch Ness.

I'm not usually one for historic sites, but it must be said that I really enjoyed visiting Urquhart Castle. The site has been carefully crafted to tell a story and take you on a journey through this little piece of history.

A great deal within the castle walls has perished, but there are information boards, perfectly situated at various viewpoints, that show you what it once would have looked like. There are also illustrations of how some of the rooms would have been used and lots of fun facts - even down to how the toilet system worked. It's an engaging tour for people of all ages.

Booking in advance is highly recommended. You can buy tickets online, or from the information centre in Drumnodrochit.
